The prophet Jeremiah was called by God at a young age. The more he preached the Word of God the more hostile the people were towards his message. God told Jeremiah to warn the people of Israel about the 70 years of captivity that was coming because of their idolatry. In the midst of this pronounced judgment, God’s mercy and grace was still present. The prophet proclaimed that after the 70 years of captivity, God would bring them back to the land. Jeremiah 29:10-11 says, “For thus saith the Lord, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” This passage reveals a thanksgiving promise. Be thankful for the promises of God!
