1741 was one of the greatest songwriting years of all-time. It was on August 22, 1741, when George Frideric Handel began the composition of his masterpiece called Messiah. After 24 days of composition, it was completed on September 14, 1741. Handel said these words when the Hallelujah Chorus was finished, “I did think I did see all Heaven before me, and the great God Himself seated on His throne, with His company of Angels.” The inspiration for the Hallelujah Chorus in Handel’s Messiah was Rev. 19:6, 16; 11:15. How cool it is to know God used today’s passage to inspire one of the greatest worship songs to be written.
