Philip Paul Bliss was born in 1838 in a log cabin in Pennsylvania. When he was just eleven years old, he left his home to work on farms and in lumber camps, but one day he attended a revival meeting where he encountered saving faith in Christ. Philip had a special God given interest in music. Eventually, he became an itinerate music teacher, and an evangelistic song leader after the influence of his friend DL Moody. In December of 1876, Philip and his wife Lucy left Rome, Pennsylvania to travel to Moody’s church in Chicago. Tragically, the bridge collapsed as their train journeyed across it with seven cars plunging to the icy cold river down below. Bliss surprisingly survived the fall, escaped through a window, but as he returned to save his wife, the train burst into flames with both perishing in the fire. Philip was 38 years old the day he went to be with the Lord. In 1875, just one year before his passing, God gave him a song that would grip the hearts of sinners and move the saints to worship. The title of song was, “Hallelujah, What A Savior.” Just as Bliss wrote that song, Jude has joined in with an anthem of praise with his concluding doxology!
I cycled across America in 30 days and wrote a book about it! Check it out: https://www.amazon.com/Coast-Spiritual-Lessons-Bicycle-Seat/dp/1683147766
