Jonathon Edwards goes down as the greatest philosopher, author, and pastor in America’s history. He preached the most famous sermon in America on July 8, 1741 called, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.” Edwards, along with Whitefield, were used by God during the Great Awakening. He learned Latin, Greek and Hebrew as a child with an additional interest in science and religion. At age 13, he entered Yale obtaining his bachelor’s degree, and stayed an additional two years to study theology. At age 17, he was converted to Christ. He started pastoring around the age of 18. The entirety of his life was centered around the glory of God. At age 18, he wrote down his first of many resolutions, “Resolved that I will do whatsoever I think to be most to God’s glory…Resolved to do this, whatever difficulties I meet with, how many and how great soever.” Edwards was essentially saying the key to the Christian life is the pursuit of the glory of God. In other words, what will most glorify God! Like Jonathan Edwards, Moses was a man of resolve. The main takeaway from today’s message is to have resolved faith. Resolved, to have faith in God no matter the consequences!
I cycled across America in 30 days and wrote a book about it! Check it out: https://www.amazon.com/Coast-Spiritual-Lessons-Bicycle-Seat/dp/1683147766
