Little House on the Prairie needs no introduction. With over 200 episodes, that are still being aired, it’s hard to imagine someone who has not seen at least one episode. I can distinctly remember seeing one called “The Faith Healer” from the 1979 season. Mrs. Oleson invited the Reverend James Danforth to Walnut Grove to hold a meeting. His charismatic, fiery style of preaching surely captivated everyone’s attention, especially when he claimed to possess the gift of healing. During his message he called the sick to the altar to be healed, and he allegedly gave sight to a blind person and gave crippled person the ability to walk. With complete awestruck, the whole town flocked to hear this Reverend preach. However, Rev. Alden, Dr. Baker, and Charles rejected this man as a phony, but didn’t have the evidence to prove it. At one point in the show, a farmer’s son was complaining about abdominal pain with Dr. Baker urging the farmer to have surgery, but Danforth seemed to have healed the boy. Later that night, the boy’s appendix burst and he died. Meanwhile, Charles went on a delivery trip to Sleepy Eye and heard Danforth was holding a meeting there. He slipped inside the back of the service to witness the Reverend using the same sermon with the same people getting healed. Now Charles had his evidence to prove this Danforth was a phony, charlatan, and false teacher. That show is a lot like the times Jude was writing in because of all the false teachers creeping in the ancient church.

I cycled across America in 30 days and wrote a book about it! Check it out: https://www.amazon.com/Coast-Spiritual-Lessons-Bicycle-Seat/dp/1683147766
